In most areas of Durban, you’ll start receiving bids within 2 minutes of posting. The time depends on how many verified drivers are online near you at that moment. The app shows you live driver availability before you post, so you always know whether drivers are nearby. If no bids arrive within 10 minutes, you’ll receive a notification.
Before your driver loads anything, they photograph every item and you approve those photos in the app. This creates a documented record of your items’ condition at collection. If something arrives damaged, you open a dispute in the app. HALA reviews both sets of photos and the full job record and issues a finding within 24 hours. The photo record is your protection.
Optional goods in transit insurance is available at checkout. If you purchase it, you’re covered for item damage claims up to the policy limit. If you don’t, HALA mediates between you and the driver based on the evidence. Either way, the driver’s rating is affected if damage occurred during their job.
Every driver on HALA MOVE has completed our verification process before they see their first job. This means: their South African ID has been checked against the government database, their vehicle has been photographed from multiple angles, and their roadworthy certificate is on file with an expiry date we track. If their roadworthy expires, their account pauses automatically. No driver appears on the platform without passing all of these checks. When you see a driver’s profile, their verified status is real, not a self-declared checkbox.
You don’t have to accept any bid. Before you post your job, our AI shows you a fair price range based on your distance, items, and floor situation. You set a maximum budget. Drivers bid to match or beat it. If all the bids are higher than you’re comfortable with, you can decline them all and repost at a different price or time. You are never locked into accepting a bid you’re not happy with.
Yes, cancelling before you accept a driver’s bid costs nothing. Your job posting is free and you can withdraw it at any time before accepting. If you cancel after a driver has accepted your bid and is already on their way, a small cancellation fee may apply to compensate the driver for fuel already used. That fee is shown to you before you confirm the cancellation. Your payment hold is always released within 24 hours of any cancellation.
When you accept a driver’s bid, your payment is held in escrow by PayFast, South Africa’s leading payment gateway. The money does not go to the driver at that point. It sits in a secure hold. It only moves to the driver when you confirm delivery in the app. If the job doesn’t happen, the hold is released back to you. HALA MOVE never holds your money directly; it is held by PayFast under their secure payment infrastructure.
HALA MOVE is currently live in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. We cover Durban’s metro area, including the CBD, Berea, Glenwood, Westville, Pinetown, Umhlanga, KwaMashu, Umlazi, and surrounding areas. The app will show you live driver availability in your area before you post your job if drivers are nearby, you’ll see them on the map. We are expanding to Johannesburg and Cape Town. Check the app for current coverage.
You can see your driver on the live map from the moment they accept your job. If they are running late, they are required to message you through in-app chat before they’re late, not after. If a driver fails to arrive within a reasonable window without communication, you can contact HALA MOVE support through the app. HALA MOVE will investigate and your payment hold will be released in full. The driver’s account is flagged. Three unresolved no-shows result in suspension from the platform.
You need: a valid South African ID, your vehicle details (make, model, year, registration), photos of your vehicle, a current roadworthy certificate, and a South African bank account for your payouts. The registration process takes about 15 minutes. Once your documents are submitted, our team reviews them. Verification typically takes within 24 hours. You’ll receive an SMS and in-app notification when you’re approved and ready to receive jobs.
Your earnings are straightforward: Jobs completed × Your bid price × 80%. You set your own price for every job. HALA MOVE takes 20% as a platform fee. You keep 80%. There is no monthly fee, no registration cost, and no minimum number of jobs. What you earn depends entirely on your availability, how you price your bids, your vehicle type, and your rating. The platform provides the job feed and the payment infrastructure the outcome is in your hands.
For jobs where the customer confirms delivery before 5pm on a business day, your payout is processed for same-day settlement to your registered bank account. For jobs confirmed after 5pm, your payout is processed the following business day morning. Actual timing depends on your bank’s processing schedule. There is no weekly cycle, no holding period, and no threshold you need to reach before you can be paid. Every job pays independently.
This is exactly why the photo protocol exists. If you photographed the items before loading and the customer approved those photos, HALA MOVE has a documented record of your items’ condition at collection. If a customer claims damage that is visible in your pre-loading photos, HALA MOVE will rule in your favour. If you followed the protocol, you are protected. If you skipped the photos, for any reason, HALA MOVE cannot defend your position. Take the photos. Every time. No exceptions.
Yes. HALA MOVE does not require exclusivity. You can use other platforms, take direct client work, or use any other source of income alongside HALA MOVE. The only rule is that if you have accepted a bid and are on an active HALA MOVE job, that job takes priority until it is completed and confirmed. You cannot be on an active HALA MOVE job and simultaneously commit to another job from a different source.
No. Your rating is a rolling average of your completed jobs it does not change while you’re offline. Your position in bid rankings is based on your rating, your completed job count, and how your bid compares to the customer’s budget. None of these change just because you haven’t been online recently. You can take a week off and come back to exactly the same standing you left with. There is no penalty for time off.
HALA MOVE Priority is an optional subscription for experienced drivers (4.0+ stars, 30+ jobs) that gives your bids priority placement in ranking when your rating is equal to other drivers. It is coming in the next platform update. Whether it’s worth R200/month depends on your volume: if Priority consistently helps you win even one additional job per week that you would otherwise have lost, it pays for itself very quickly. The value is clearest for drivers who are active daily and competing on busy corridors. We’ll notify all eligible drivers when it launches.
Yes. When a customer requests helpers for their job, HALA MOVE adds R150 per helper to the job value and passes this through to you. You arrange your own helpers and pay them from this amount. Your helpers do not need to be registered on HALA MOVE for consumer jobs they are working under your responsibility. If a job requires helpers and the customer has selected this option, you must arrive with the agreed number of helpers. Not having helpers when they were booked is a serious conduct issue and affects your rating and standing.
HALA MOVE offers formal B2B contracts for businesses that need regular, scheduled transport. We work with construction companies (site materials and waste), medical facilities (supply and inter-facility transfers), retailers and FMCG distributors (regular route deliveries), e-commerce companies with bulky goods, and event companies. Contract durations range from 30 days to 12 months. Pricing is tailored to your vehicle requirements, daily volume, route complexity, and contract length. Contact us at hello@halaapp.co.za to discuss your requirements.
Fleet owners have access to a dedicated fleet dashboard. From one screen, you can see all your vehicles on a live map, manage which driver is assigned to which vehicle, view each driver’s individual performance metrics, see consolidated earnings across your fleet, and track roadworthy certificate expiry dates for every vehicle. B2B contract notifications, including new contract opportunities and renewal alerts, arrive through the fleet dashboard. You add drivers to your fleet account and each driver goes through HALA MOVE’s standard verification before they can receive jobs under your fleet.
SLA terms are agreed per contract. If performance falls below the agreed threshold in any given month, your invoice for that month is reduced proportionally. If performance falls critically below the agreed level, you have the right to terminate with reduced notice and without a termination fee the exact terms are specified in your contract. We recommend discussing your SLA requirements thoroughly before signing, so your contract reflects what you actually need and what we can genuinely deliver.
Corporate clients receive a single consolidated invoice at the end of each calendar month. The invoice is itemised by job, vehicle, route, date, and cost. Payment terms are 30 days from invoice date as standard. 14-day payment terms are available and attract a small additional discount. The invoice is available in your client dashboard at the same time it is emailed to your nominated accounts contact. All invoices are in South African rand.
